We Jammin', We Jammin - Strawberry Hands!

The first Jam Club was last Sunday.

It all started at around 2pm when the DeRusha's arrived and then Doug,Jane, and Melissa soon followed.

After touring around the yard and some dancing we started the harvest. The strawberry patch was overloaded with berries and it seemed like an area would get picked and then it'd be full of berries again.

After the picking we relaxed to some music and a lovely white wine and gossiped about those that had to leave early and those that couldn't make it.

It was pointed by Seth DeRusha that we all had 'strawberry hands' and when asked if he wanted them washed off he said 'Noooooooo!!!! Strawberry hands! Strawberry hands!'

I've been getting reports of Strawberries on ice cream, strawberry pies, and ofcourse strawberry jam.

It's On.

This weekend is the first Jam Club get together.
There'll be music, snacks, and ofcourse lots of berries; the strawberry patch is ready to be picked.
You'll need to bring pants,a hat, a long shirt, and a go get'em attitude and we'll harvest some of the tastiest organic berries ever.
The test kitchen has already made some great strawberry jam for sampling.
Send me an email. We'll rock.

Update From The Orchard.

This is the first creation out of the Casa de' Cat's orchard. It's a strawberry-rhubarb crisp.

which was followed by strawberry-rhubarb tarties.

Delicious, no?

Update: The strawberry patch is overloaded and three cherry trees are flush. If most make it to harvest, 50lbs.

This has been an official Minnesota Jam Club Update.

Welcome to the Jam Club

This is the story of Jam.

This blog is going to contain stories and information related to making jams, preserves, gardening, and music.

My intentions are to form a small team of Jam experts with a small enthusiastic group of anyone interested in making jam and task master them to fun and State Fair Victory.

Yes, we'll also be listening to good music and looking good.

What is the Jam Club?
It's a group that's currently forming to make jams and jellies. Also, I'll be posting the trials and errors of gardening fruits and making jams.

Join while it's still free.

Why a Jam Club?
We recently moved in a new house with a small orchard that includes several cherry trees, apricot trees, arctic kiwi vines, strawberry vines, raspberry vines, a larger mayberry tree, and neighbors with a walnut tree and several types of apple trees and most of it gets eaten by the squirrels and birds. So I decided to form jam club to harvest and jam the various fruits and nuts. There'll still be plenty for the wild life and everyone in jam club should be able to get a bunch of jams and jellies for gifts and consumption.

Is Jam Club for me?
1) Do you have a sweet tooth?
2)Do you like giving personal homemade gifts?
3) Will you be able to spare a few hours during harvest time and for canning day?
4) Have you ever won a ribbone at the Minnesota State Fair for making jam?

If you answered yes to 3 out of the 4 then it sounds like jam club is for you.
If you answered yes to any, but you think it's for you anyway; it's still probably for you.
If you answered yes to #4 then you're what's known as "Our Ringer."

Is there a fee? Where are the hidden costs?
Jam Club is free to join, but I keep telling people "Sign up while it's free", because it's funny the way I say it.

What will you do with your share of the booty?
I'll eat some, give some as gifts, and the rest will go to charity through sales or donation.
